Tech’s Sammy McGree earns Frontier Conference honor

It didn’t take Sammy McGree long to leave her mark on the Frontier Conference.

The Montana Tech freshman guard was named the Frontier Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The 5-foot-7 McGree is a 2014 Butte High graduate. The Orediggers lost two games over the weekend, losing 56-50 to Eastern Oregon and 71-64 to College of Idaho.

McGree averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds per game on the weekend. McGree joined the Orediggers after not playing basketball her first year at Montana Tech.

Brandy Lambourne of Montana State-Northern, Aniese Palmore of Montana Western and Baylee Watson of Carroll College were also nominated for the award.

Warren Edmondson of Montana State-Northern was named the Frontier Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Edmondson is a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Portland, Oregon. Northern lost to Chadron State College 61-69. He scored 22 points, grabbed two rebounds and recorded three assists.

Edmondson was 7 of 13 from field, 5 of 7 in 3-point field goals and 3 of 3 from the free throw line.

Jalen Coates of Montana Tech, Taylor Longo of Rocky Mountain College, Zach Taylor of Carroll College and Jacob Wiley of Lewis-Clark State were also nominated.
