HAVRE — Becca Richtman knows how to make a strong first impression.
The Montana Tech freshman ran to victory in the first-ever meet the Orediggers competed in Friday at the Prairie Creek Farms Golf Course. Richman, who is from Elburn, Illinois, ran the 5-kilometre course in 18 minutes, 57 seconds to win the Frontier Conference Preview Meet. (Results)
She beat second-place Eireann O’Connor of Montana Western by 13 seconds.
Natalie Yocum of Carroll College placed third 19:15. Her teammates Reghan Wolrey and Mckenna Bomengen followed at 19:37 and 19:42.
Montana Tech’s Averi Parker placed sixth at 19:44 in a meet that drew 33 total runners.
Only three women’s teams had enough runners to score points. Carroll won with 27 points. Western took second with 50, and the Orediggers placed third at 61
Carlin Manning (22:16), Payton Huss (22:45), Raychel Hoerner (23:46), Karolyna Buck (24:06) and Jessa Steele (24:12) also ran for the Orediggers.
The Orediggers placed third out of five full teams on the men’s side.
With 26 points, Carroll won the meet. Rocky took second at 55, followed by Tech at 84, MSU-Northern at 89 and Western at 85.
Unattached runner Cesar Mireles won the 8-kilometre race in 26:04. Carroll’s Spencer Swaim and Connor O’Hara were next at 26:53 and 26:57.
Ian Barville led the Orediggers in 27:37, good for eight place. Western’s Matt Wilson placed 10th in 27:55.
Henry Kakalecik (28:21), River Sheppard (30:01), Drew Williams (30:04) and Charles Carriker (31:04) also ran for the Orediggers.
