Tech’s Jones joins Baltimore Ravens

Former Montana Tech linebacker Ryan Jones will get a chance to play in the National Football League as a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

Jones, from Reno, Nevada, said on Twitter late last night that he was heading to Baltimore. Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported Jones joined the Ravens this morning on Twitter.

The addition of Jones brings the team’s roster to its cap of 90.

Jones played two seasons for the Orediggers. He started as a junior transfer in 2011. He played defensive end before moving to linebacker.

After missing the 2012 season with an injury, Jones returned to the Orediggers to record 83 tackles in 2013. That includes eight and a half tackles for a loss and five sacks.

The 6-foot-3 1/2, 249 pound Jones did not receive post-season honors for the Orediggers. He did, however, turn some heads during a pro day, when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds.

Jones will join the team this week during its post-draft rookie camp/tryout.

I had Ryan and class and knew him outside of the classroom too. He’s a great guy. Focused and hardworking. Proud of him.
