Tech’s Hopcroft named Defender of the Week

Montana Tech volleyball player took home Frontier Conference Defender of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Hopcroft is a 5-foot-7 senior libero from Florence. She helped No. 23 Montana Tech go 3-1 at the 2019 GoSarpy.Com Labour Day Tournament in Nebraska. The Orediggers beat Doane (Neb.) 3-1, College of the Ozarks (Mo.) 3-1, and McPherson College (Kan.) 3-0. Tech fell 3-0 to No.17 Central Methodist 0-3.

Hopcroft averaged 6.29 digs per set for the 10-2 Orediggers.

Gionni Brown of Lewis-Clark State, Ayla Embry of Rocky Mountain, Kaitlin Murdock of MSU-Northern and Tannah Sellers of Montana Western were also nominated for the award.

Attacker of the Week: Daniella Russell, Rocky Mountain College.

Russell is a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter from Red Lodge No. 13 Rocky went 3-1 at the 2019 Sarpy County Labor Day Volleyball Classic. The Bears lost to (RV) Morningside (Iowa) 0-3 and beat No. 3 Grand View (Iowa) 3-2, No. 11 Dordt (Iowa) 3-2 and No. 25 Ottawa (Kan.) 3-0.

Russell averaged 3.38 kills with a .256 attack percentage. She also averaged 1.63 digs per set.

Karina Mickelson of Montana Tech , Tori Edwards of Lewis-Clark State, Elissa Lind of MSU-Northern, Cady Siemion of Montana Western and Kelsey Shaver of the University of Providence were also nominated.

Setter of the Week: Natalie Hilderman, Rocky Mountain College.

Hilderman is a 6-foot-1 junior setter from Red Lodge, Mont. No. 13 Rocky went 3-1 at the 2019 Sarpy County Labor Day Volleyball Classic. The Bears lost to (RV) Morningside (Iowa) 0-3 and beat No. 3 Grand View (Iowa) 3-2, No. 11 Dordt (Iowa) 3-2 and No. 25 Ottawa (Kan.) 3-0.

Hilderman averaged 8.31 assists and 2.69 digs. She recorded 39 in the win over No. 3 Grand View.

McKenna Kaelber of Montana Tech, Renae Davis of the University of Providence, Madison Richtmyer of Montana Western and Hailey Warren of MSU-Northern and Ali Williams of Carroll College were also nominated.
