Carroll’s Wagner takes home women’s award
WHITEFISH — This has to be some kind of record.
Montana Tech senior Taylor England has played three basketball games this season, and it resulted in three Frontier Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week awards.
The latest honor came Monday, five days after England helped lead the Orediggers to an 82-62 win over Carroll College in their home opener.
The 6-foot-7 Helena High product posted his third double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in the win. He shot 6 of 10 from the field and sank 8 of 11 shots from the free throw line.
England also won the award Nov. 30 and Oct. 26.
Danielle Wagner from Carroll College took home the women’s award.
The 5-9 former Havre Blue Pony led the No. 6 Saints to a 68-57 win at Montana Tech on Thursday. Then, Carroll went to Lewis-Clark State and split a pair of games against the Warriors. Carroll won 65-60 on Saturday and fell 60-50 on Sunday.
The loss was the first of the season for the 7-1 Saints.
For the week, Wagner averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, one assist and one steal. She was 17 of 33 (52 percent) from the field and 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
Montana Tech’s Mollie Peoples, who won the award last week, was also nominated.
