Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced 165 nominees for the 2016 AFCA Good Works Team.

Montana Tech’s Levi Dawes is among the group nominated for one of the most coveted off-field honors in college football. The award was established in 1992 to recognize a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives of others.

In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintain a strong academic standing.

Dawes, a junior defensive lineman from Helena, fits the description of the all-around great student-athlete and puts his team and school first. The team voted Dawes Hardest Worker for their summer program and Best Recruiter during the offseason for hosting potential incoming student-athletes.

A participant in Big Brothers and Big Sisters for the past three years, Dawes and his Lil’ Bro are seen at Tech athletic events and around campus playing basketball or other activities. He is also the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and leads the HPER Hooligans, a student fan club that encourages students to attend athletic events and be positive examples of school spirit. Dawes has led SAAC in numerous service activities like food and clothing drives.

In addition to his off-field activities, Dawes is a major part of a strong defensive front. Last season, he totaled 36 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members will select the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Once the final team members announced in September, fans are encouraged to visit the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team website on ESPN.com, featuring profiles and images of the players, for the opportunity to vote for the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good works Team Captain.
