Montana Tech golfer Sean Benson travels to Arizona this week for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) Men’s Golf National Championship. The 72-hole tournament starts Tuesday at the Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, and runs Tuesday through Friday.
Benson, a senior from Billings, is the first Oredigger to win an individual Frontier Conference Championship. Benson ran away with the victory winning the tournament by six strokes and earning the conference’s automatic bid to the national tournament.
Rocky Mountain College won the team title and will also play in the tournament.
The full championship field is 156 golfers consisting of conference team champions, conference individual medalists, returning All-Tournament team players from the 2018 national championship tournament and at-large berths. The championship field will be cut to the top 17 teams and individuals in the top 40 (including ties) after 36 holes.
Benson tees off on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with fellow conference tournament winners Callum Blinhorm from Lindsey Wilson and Phillip Nijoka of Loyola.
