Tech’s Benson takes lead at Yellowjacket Fall Invite

HUNTLEY — Montana Tech freshman Sean Benson had a big day Thursday.

The Billings Senior graduate fired a 4-under-par 68 at the Pryor Creek Golf Course to take the first-round lead at the MSU-Billings Yellowjacket Fall Invitational.

Jesse Lambert of North Idaho College sits in second place at 70, followed by MSUB’s Michael Porter at 71.

David Starcevich shot a 77 for the Orediggers, while Dublin Sullivan, shot 78, Cole Noctor hit 79 and Sean Ryan carded an 82.

At 302, the Orediggers sit in third place behind MSUB at 293 and North Idaho College at 295. Carroll College is fourth at 307.

MSUB’s Kortney McNeil shot a 73 to take the first-round lead. Teammates Bailee Dexter and Haley Shackelford are tied for second at 77 as the Yellowjackets took a commanding lead at 308. North Idaho College is second at 362, followed by Carroll College at 381 and Montana Tech at 427.

Freshman Hailey Ogolin, a Butte High graduate, is in eight place after shooting an 88. Taryn Campbell added a 96 for Tech, while Ashten McCloskey hit 112, and Kelly Harbach carded a 131.

The tournament concludes on Friday.
