WHITEFISH — The Frontier Conference named Sean Benson the Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Benson, a junior from Billings, was the victor in the first Frontier tournament of the year last week. Benson won the MSU Northern Invite in Shelby. It is the second straight year Benson opened the golf season with a first place finish. He won the Montana Tech Invitational last year.
Benson shot a 211 (-5) for the tournament, which included a 68 in the second round. He fired two eagles during the second round to take the lead. Rocky’s Michael Tait tied Benson on the final day sending the pair into a playoff. On hole 10, Benson two-putted after hitting the green on his second shot to win the tournament with a par.
Montana Tech travels to Helena next week for the Carroll College Invitational at the Green Meadow Country Club.
