Tech women’s upset bid falls short at Carroll

HELENA — An upset bid by Montana Tech’s women’s basketball team fell just short Tuesday night at the P.E. Center.

No. 8 Carroll College outscored the Orediggers 11-3 over the final 3 minutes to turn back the Orediggers for a 68-63 Frontier Conference victory. (Stats)

A 3-pointer by Danielle Wagner broke a 61-all tie with a 3-pointer, putting the Saints up for good at 64-61 with 1 minute, 54 seconds left.

The Orediggers, which ed 34-29 at halftime, took a 48-45 lead into the fourth quarter. Carroll outscored Tech 23-15 over the final 10 minutes.

Christine Denny’s 15 points paced the Saints (14-4, 6-1). Jaidyn Lyman and Hannah Dean each scored 11 points, while Brittney Johnson tossed in 10. Wagner finished with eight, one more than Emma Madsen.

Sophomore Mollie Peoples scored 20 points to lead the Orediggers. She was joined in double figures by true freshman Dani Urick with 11 points. Junior Kaylee Zard contributed with nien points and 11 rebounds.

The Orediggers also got eight points from Mesa Williams, five from Hailey Crawford, four from Tjaden Pallister and Jaime Berg, and two from Megan Delaney.

Tech (11-7, 1-6) heads to Billings Saturday to take on Rocky Mountain College.
