HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech women’s golf team posted the best team score for a 36-hole event in school history at the Carroll College Invitational at Bill Roberts Golf Course. The Orediggers finished in second place to Rocky Mountain.
The Tech team shot a second round of 328 (+73) in cold and windy conditions. The Orediggers were 44 strokes behind Rocky. The Bears finished with a 605 (+29) for the two round event. Carroll College finished in third one stroke behind Tech with a 329 (+74).
“Our ladies played well and shot a very respectable score today to beat Carroll on their home track,” said head coach Sean Ryan.
Rocky took four of the top five places with Claire Wright winning the tournament with a 139 (-5).
Emma Woods led the Orediggers moving up the leaderboard from the previous day with a 75. Woods moved up four places to finish in sixth with a 157 (+13) total.
Kodie Hoagland finished in seventh with a 159 (+15). Cierra Sundheim finished in tenth place with a 166 (+22). Emily Kelly shot a 173 (+29) finishing in T19. Samantha Benson improved 10 strokes from the first day finishing with a 176 (+32).
“We had a couple players bounce back and give us some good rounds today that were better than yesterday. Emma put together a really good 75 in today’s conditions and Sami Benson recovered to shoot her best round of the tournament today.”
“Throughout the lineup of players like Kennedy, Franchi, Samantha, and Ciera were able to keep their heads in it and play one hole at a time.”
“It was nice to have three players finishing in the top 10 this tournament and have so many players just outside that range, that know that they can finish higher going forward.”
The Tech golfers are off next week before the final Frontier Conference event of the season. The Orediggers tee off at the Rocky Mountain Invitational at the Yegen Golf Club in Billing on October 3rd.
