Tech women storm back to knock of Bulldogs

DILLON — Montana Tech’s women’s basketball team got back in the win column Thursday night.

The Orediggers outscored Montana Western 38-22 in the second half to pull off a 68-56 Frontier Conference victory at the Straugh Gymnasium. The win snapped a four-game winning streak for the Orediggers. (Stats)

Tavia Rooney had a huge night to lead the Orediggers, who improved to 12-14 overall and 3-8 in conference play. She scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

Mollie Peoples sank three 3-pointers and scored 14 points for the Orediggers. Dani Urick scored 10 points, and Ally Cleverly added nine points and four assists.

Brooke Heggie scored four points and grabbed four rebounds. Madison Allen joined Heggie with four points and three assists. Tech also got three points from Audrie Rademacher and two apiece from Soda Rice and Celestina Faletoi.

Brynley Fitgerald’s 19 points and six rebounds led the Bulldogs (14-9, 4-7). Mesa King scored 13 points, and Natali Denning tossed in eight.

The Orediggers are back on the road Saturday to take on Rocky Mountain College in Billings. Western heads to Helena to play Carroll College.
