Tech women lose, but clinch 3rd seed

DILLON — Alecia Wilson hit a bucket in the paint with 2 seconds left, and Montana Western beat Montana Tech 62-60 in a Frontier Conference women’s basketball game tonight at the Straugh Gymnasium.

Wilson scored 16 points as the Bulldogs (6-9 Frontier, 14-15 overall) won for just the second time in eight games. She also pulled down 10 rebounds.

With Rocky Mountain beating MSU-Northern, the Orediggers still wrapped up the No. 3 seed in the Frontier Conference playoffs, which start Tuesday. The Orediggers will play at home.

Sammi Bignell added 15 points in the win. Brittney Leibenguth scored 10 and Roxanne Thurman tossed in nine.

Mandy Machinal’s 21 points paced the Orediggers (9-6, 16-11). Laini Kalumbi scored 11, while Dannii Devenny tossed in 10, Shaye Murphy scored nine and Brooke Pokorny netted seven.

The Orediggers close out the regular season Saturday at Westminster College.
