Tech, Western players named hoops Academic All-Conference

Fourteen Montana Tech basketball players and 11 players from Montana Western were named Academic All-Conference when the Frontier Conference released the honors team on Friday.

To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, maintain a 3.0 GPA and enrolled at the school the previous two semesters.

The Oredigger women’s team saw eight players receive the honor. They are seniors Sophia Baetz and Kabri Emerson, junior Shayla Mack, and sophomores Martha Dembek, Rachel Farris, Kimberly Heng, Callee Remsen and Hattie Thatcher. Emerson and Thatcher are Butte High graduates.

Six members of the Montana Tech men’s team made the list. They are sophomore Marcus Payne, junior Keegan McCarthy and seniors Reid Baerlocher, Paul Engstrom, Brandon Rydberg and Trent Thompson. McCarthy is a Butte Central graduate.

Three players from the Montana Western men’s squad received the academic honor. They are senior Jordan Overstreet and juniors Tanner Hupka and Zachary Smith.

The Bulldog women’s team placed eight players on the list. Joining juniors Melody McCloud and Kellie Miller on the academic team are seniors Jennifer Banks, Kelsey Callaghan, McCall Hasquet, Taylor Kantack, Kaci Matthies and Baylie Smith.

MSU-Northern’s women’s team placed six players on the list, including Butte High graduate Natalee Faupel.
