BUTTE, Mont. – The No. 17 Montana Tech volleyball team is back in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Tournament. The Orediggers received an at-large bid and will host a NAIA National Championship Opening Round match this Saturday. Tech hosts No. 25 Westmont (Calif.) at 7 p.m. in the HPER Complex.
This is the second year in a row for the Orediggers (24-8) making the national tournament and hosting an Opening Round. The winner will move on to the national championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa November 30 – December 6 at the Tyson Events Center.
This is the seventh time the Orediggers have reached the national championship and the fifth time under 11th year head coach Brian Solomon. The Orediggers won the Frontier Conference regular season championship. Tech almost reached the Final 8 last season, but lost to Midland in a one-set tiebreaker after pool play.
Westmont (22-6) won the Golden State Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship to get into the NAIA National Championship. The Warriors made it to the national championship last year and this is their 16th appearance into the NAIA post season.
Tech is 3-1 against Golden Sate Athletic Conference schools this season. Westmont has won the last two meeting between the two schools with the last time in August of 2019. The Orediggers went to the NAIA National Championship that same year.
Tickets will be available at the match on Saturday. The doors open at 6 p.m. The cost for admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. Montana Tech students receive free admission when they show their Digger Card.
