Tech spikers fall in five

SPOKANE — Three Montana Tech volleyball players reached double figures in kills Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Orediggers to their first victory of the season.

Tech fell 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-9 to Eastern Oregon on the first day of the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge.

Taylor Stewart tallied 18 kills, while Casey Loper and Stefani Sorensen followed with 17 and 16 kills to lead the Mountaineers.

Jordan Danz’s 14 kills paced the Orediggers. Samantha Hutcheson added 11, and Sydney Norris killed 10. Korey Krumm and Annie Smoot each killed eight.

Alison Lundi dished up 27 assists, Mackenzie Bauck added 19 assists, Kimmy Kavran collected 28 digs and Norris collected 20 digs.

The Orediggers (0-2) are back in action Friday when they take on Oregon Tech and Corban University.
