Montana Tech head men’s basketball coach announced the signing of his first recruit today. Marcus Payne, a Class A standout from Livingston, signed with the Orediggers and is the first men’s basketball recruit for 2013-14.
“Marcus was our No. 1 recruit this year,” O’Herron said.
Payne, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound post, graduates from Park High School this spring. This past year, he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game. He led the Class A in rebounds. Both his junior and senior seasons, Payne was selected All-Conference and All-State.
“I feel Marcus is the best rebounder in the state. He has a nose for the ball and that is something you can’t teach,” O’Herron said.
“Marcus is such a great kid. I was fortunate to coach him for the past three years,” said Park head coach Scott Rosberg. “He is all about team and has a great work ethic. He is one of the best post players I have ever coached. I can’t wait to see him at the next level.”
Payne, the son of Barry and Heather Payne, brings a 3.1 GPA to Tech.
“The last three years were great with coach Rosberg. He really helped me improve as a player,” Payne said. “I’m really excited to attend Tech. I like the coaching staff and the team. The school is a good place to get an education and the support from the community is great.”
