Tech men third, women fifth at Carroll Invite

HELENA — Montana Tech’s men’s golf team sits in third place after the first day of the Carroll College Invitational at the Green Meadow Country Club.

The Oredigger women are in fifth place.

The Tech men shot a 310 and a 290 on the first two rounds Monday and take a 600 score into Tuesday’s final round. The men will play 18 holes on Tuesday.

Lewis-Clark State lead the way at 571 after shooting 293 and 278. Rocky Mountain College is second at 593 after rounds of 297 and 286.

The University of Great Falls is one shot behind the Oredigger men. Carroll College is sixth at 642.

Oredigger Sean Benson is tied for sixth place at 145 after following a first-round 75 with a 70. He is six shots behind leaders Taylor Noble and Mike Baldeck of Lewis-Clark State and Colton Murphy of Rocky Mountain College.

Balderick followed an even-par 71 with a 68, while Noble hit 69-70. Murphy went 70-69.

Tech’s Sean Ryan is tied for 20th at 150, while Dave Starcevich is tied for 25th at 154, and Cole Noctor sits in a tie for 30th at 155.

The Oredigger women shot a 310 and are 17 shots out of the lead at the midway point. Lewis-Clark State leads at 293, followed by Rocky at 297, Great Falls at 303 and Carroll at 306.

L-C State’s Karina Davila matched par at 72 to take the first-round lead. Kyla Clancy of Rocky is second at 75.

Taryn Campbell led the Orediggers with an 84. Hailey Ogolin hit 88, while Ashten McCloskey carded a 103.
