DILLON — Sindou Diallo broke the 30-point mark for the third time this season Wednesday night.
The Montana Tech senior scored 18 of his 31 points in the second half as the Orediggers stopped a two-game skid with an 86-81 win over Montana Western at the Straugh Gymnasium. (Stats)
Markieth Brown scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half, and Drew Huse came off the bench to score 10 points as Tech improved to 7-7 overall and 7-5 in Frontier Conference play. Taylor England scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Brown hit a 3-piont shot with 4 minutes, 18 seconds left to put the Orediggers on top for good at 69-66. Another three by Nate Ward with 1:14 left helped Tech hold off the Bulldogs down the stretch.
Western led 27-21 before Montana Tech closed the first half with a 17-8 run to take a 38-35 lead into the break. The game saw six ties and 10 lead changes.
Ward finished with eight points for Tech, which got five points and 11 boards from Cody Baumstarck and four points from Derrius Collins.
Jalen Hodges scored 27 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, who fell 3-6 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Michael Haverfield scored 16 points, Tanner Haverfield poured in 15, and Max Clark scored 10 points and dropped nine assists.
The Bulldogs also got nine points from Jamal Stephenson four from Jok Jok and one from Colter Miller.
Wednesday’s game began a stretch of three games in five days between the rivals. The Bulldogs will be in Butte Saturday and Sunday in Butte.
