HELENA — The Montana Tech men’s golf team is playing lights-out.
The Orediggers shot a 289 Tuesday at the Green Meadow Country Club and placed second at the Carroll College Classic with an 889 three-round total.
That comes after the Orediggers hit 310 and 290 during the first two rounds on Monday.
Montana Tech third-year coach Lee LaBreche said he believes 289 is a school record for the Orediggers.
“Since I’ve been her we’ve never shot under 300,” LaBreche said. “We played awesome. The kids picked it up.”
Lewis-Clark State shot 282 and won the tournament with an 853. Carroll placed third at 894.
“We bet Carroll at their home course,” LaBreche said. “That’s a good sign.”
L-C State’s Mike Baldeck shot a 71 Tuesday and claimed the individual title at 210. That’s 3 under par.
Montana Tech true freshman Sean Benson shot a 1-under 70 for the second straight round to finish at sixth place at 2-over-par and 215.
Sean Ryan, Lee Paulson and Cole Noctor each shot a final-round 73. Ryan tied for 16th at 224, while Paulson placed 20th at 225. Noctor tied for 22nd at 228.
Dave Starcevich shot 78 and finished at 231.
L-C State also won the women’s title, following a 305 with a 300 for a 605. Rocky placed second at 629, followed by Carroll at 645.
Tech placed sixth at 824 after improving 18 shots for a 403 on Tuesday.
Karina Davila of L-C State won the tournament with a 75 and a 147 total. She beat Rocky Mountain College’s Kyla Clancy, who shot a 73 Tuesday, by one shot.
Taryn Campbell led the Orediggers with a 167. She shot a final-round 83. Teammate Hailey Ogolin improved two shots for an 86 and a 174.
Ashten McCloskey shot 133 for a 236, while Kelly Harbach improved 45 shots for a 101 and a 247.
Note: Original results errored and credited Noctor with a final round 76 and Tech with a 292.
