BILLINGS — The Montana Tech men’s golf team posted some impressive scores at the Battlin’ Bear Invitational on the Yegen Golf Club.
The scores, though, weren’t nearly enough as the Orediggers placed sixth in a tournament filled with low scores. The final tournament of the fall season concluded with 18 holes on Monday.
MSU-Billings led the way with an 839 team score, following Sunday 269 and 284 with a 286 on Monday. Lewis-Clark State shot 842, followed by Rocky Mountain College at 863, Carroll College at 877 and Great Falls at 878. ( Leaderboard,Team-by-team scores)
The Orediggers shot 295, 294 and 293 for 882 and sixth place.
Chris Lien of Lewis-Clark State College shot a final round 69 to claim medalist honors at 202. The reigning Frontier Conference champion shot 66 and 67 Sunday on the par-71 course.
Montana Tech sophomore Sean Benson tied for fifth at 212 with a 67, 72 and 73.
Connor Miele of MSUB placed second at 206, followed by Colton Murphy of Rocky at 208 and Caleb Stetzner of MSUB at 209. Stetzner, a freshman former Anaconda Copperhead, shot a final-round 70 after a 67 and 72 on Sunday.
Butte High graduate David Starcevich (76-71-73) tied for 18th at 220 for the Orediggers, who also saw Ryan Keenan (76-75-74) tie for 28th at 225, Jimmy Amundson (75-78-73) tie for 30th at 226. Butte High grad Trey Hoagland (80-77-81) placed 43d at 238.
Rocky won at 606 following a final-round 301. MSUB took second place at 613, followed by L-C State at 649 and Carroll College at 675.
Haydon Floor of Rocky won medalist honors, improving nine shots for a 69 on Monday and a 147 total. Bailee Dexter of MSUB placed second at 150.
Butte High graduate and MSUB sophomore Shealyn Hafer tied for fifth place at 154. She hit 78 after Sunday’s 76.
Taryn Campbell paced the Orediggers. She shot 88 Monday for a 164 and a tie for 16th place. Butte High grad Hailey Ogolin (85-86) tied for 23rd place at 171 with Oredigger teammates Lynzee Dexter (86-85) and Megan Steach (86-85).
Kelly Harbach (104-100) placed 36th at 204.
The Orediggers’ next tournament is scheduled for March 21-22 in Billings.
