POCATELLO, Idaho — The Montana Tech men’s basketball team played an exhibition game against Idaho State Thursday night. The contest was the season opener for the Tigers. After a closer first half, the Big Sky Conference team ran away from the Orediggers 71-41.
“We were short-handed tonight, but played well in the first half,” said head coach Aaron Woliczko.
Adam Greger and Quinn Smith were not in the game tonight.
Tech trailed 37-25 in the first half against the Bengals who got hot hitting three pointers at the end of the first half. Idaho went 13 for 28 beyond the arc on the night.
Freshman Danny Hebert and Nathan Smith had eight points each on the night. Senior Dan Simon had five points, eight rebounds and three steals.
“We did a great job getting to the spot, but didn’t finish strong around the rim.”
Tech had trouble scoring in the second half with Australian post Nathan Smith hitting two three pointers as the highlight.
Tech heads to Spokane for the Cascade/Frontier Conference Challenge next weekend.
