SPOKANE — The Montana Tech men’s basketball team took care of business against Evergreen at the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge Saturday afternoon cruising to a 74-54 victory.
Montana Tech jumped out fast in the first half of the contest leading by as many as 22. The team took a 31-14 lead into the break. Tech committed only three turnovers in the first frame.
“We played really disciplined basketball in the first half,” said head coach Aaron Woliczko.
Evergreen stepped up the tempo forcing Tech to play run and gun with the
Geoducks in the second half. The Orediggers were able to hold them at bay outscoring Evergreen 43-40 in the second half.
“We played more Evergreen’s style in the second half. Peevey hit some key shots down the stretch.”
Junior Travis Peevey led the Orediggers with 15 points. He went 4 for 4 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds to his totals.
Including Peevey, four Orediggers were in double figures.
Dan Simon and Brandon Rydberg each had 11 points.
Freshman center Quinn smith had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
While Bryan Bock didn’t put up points as he did yesterday, he had eight rebounds and seven assists in the game.
Montana Tech is in Helena next weekend for the Carroll College Tournament.
