Tech Men and Women in Second at Carroll Invite

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech Women’s and Men’s golf teams finished the first round of the Carroll College Invitational at Bill Roberts Golf Course today in second place. The tournament features five of the conferences golf members with Rocky Mountain College showing that they are the team to beat in the Conference.

Rocky leads the women’s tournament with a 298, the Orediggers are in second at 321, Carroll is just two strokes behind Tech at 323 and Providence is a distant fourth at 418.

One look at the leader board and you know why Rocky is in command as the top four golfers are all Rocky Bears.  Claire Wright set the pace with a three under 69,Valentina Zuleta is one over at 73, Breana Jensen is in third with a 75 and teammate Tyla Potgieter sits in fourth with a 76.  Montana Tech’s Kodie Hoagland is tied for the fifth spot with Makayla Christiansen of Carroll with 77’s.

Oredigger Emma Wood cracked the top ten in a three way tie for tenth with two more Rocky golfers.  Franchi Ceartin is tied for 13th with an 83, Emily Kelly is tied for 16th just one stroke back at 84.  Samantha Moore carded and 87, Kennedy Lean finished the round at 89 and Samantha Benson finished with a 93.

 

The Rocky men took first day honors with a 282, Montana Tech was eleven strokes back at 293, Northern third with a 312, host Carroll a 320 and Providence with a 340.

Montana Tech;s Blake Loberg is on top of the leader board with a 4 under 68.  The top six golfers all shot under par on the opening day Rocky Mountains William Dexheimer with a 3 under 69, Montana Techs Gabe Witham is in a tie at 2 under with the Bears  Hayden Driver and Saints Leo Werschay.  Aidan McDonagh of Rocky is one under on the first day at 71.

Oredigger Nick Psquarello is one over (71) in a tie for 8th place. Jace Rhodes and Digger teammate JR Small are tied for twelfth with a Rocky golfer at 74.  Diggers Matt Hobbs and Joe Opitz are tied one stroke back at 75.  Jhett Braley rounds out the Digger team with a 78.
