Tech hockey player makes history

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) DII Vice President, Paul Hebert and ACHA DII Commissioner, Mike Radakovich announced the 2013-2014 ACHA DII Select Team roster.

Twenty-three players representing 19 ACHA Division II colleges and universities are tour Europe through Jan. 6 to play six games against teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia and Austria. The team includes Montana Tech hockey player Conrad Smith. Smith is a junior from Calgary, Alberta, majoring in petroleum engineering.

“This is the first time a Montana Tech hockey player has been placed on the ACHA DII Select Team,” said Mary North-Abbott, advisor to the Hockey Club at Montana Tech. “Our hockey team plays so few games compared to other school-supported programs so no one has taken notice before. This selection came from the All-Star Challenge that Conrad and another Tech player, Matt Ostertag, were selected to represent our region in last April in Philadelphia. We are thrilled to have Conrad represent Montana Tech.”

Mike Forbes (Grand Haven, Mich.), head coach at Grand Valley State University will coach the team and will be assisted by Jon Eccles (Logan, Utah), head coach at Utah State University and Steve McIsaac (Hampton, N.H.), head coach of University of New Hampshire.
