Tech football begins drills Wednesday

Snow or no snow, football is in the air. Montana Tech starts their spring season this week and finishes April 26 with the spring Green and White Game.

Head coach Chuck Morrell returns for his fourth season with the Orediggers. In the first three seasons at the helm, Morrell has compiled a 14-18 overall record, a Frontier Conference title and a playoff appearance.

The 2013 season had a number of ups and downs for the Orediggers. Tech finished with a 3-7 overall record after winning the Frontier Conference the previous year. But all of that is in the past as the Orediggers open a new year.

The Orediggers return 14 starters and 46 lettermen this spring. The roster includes familiar faces like running back Pat Hansen, wide receiver Alec Bray and linebackers David Meis and Mike Touzinsky.  Hansen, a senior next fall, is in a position to break a number of rushing records dating back to the early 1970s.

Practices are slated for Wednesday mornings, Friday afternoons and Saturdays over the next five weeks on Bob Green Field at Alumni Coliseum. The Green and White Game is set for noon on April 26. Admission is $5 and children are free.

The annual Digger Athletic Association Auction is also April 26at the HPER Complex. This year’s theme is “Diggerwood” paying homage to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
