Montana Tech’s football team opens the 2013 season with two games on the road.
The Orediggers recently unveiled finalized their 10-game schedule that only includes Frontier Conference games. The team opens Sept.7 at Eastern Oregon in La Grande. Tech then plays at Carroll College in Helena Sept. 14 before playing its first home game Sept. 21 against Montana Western.
The Orediggers will unveil their new Digger Turf, an artificial playing surface that will be installed at Alumni Coliseum over the summer, in the game against Western. The team will include an all-class football reunion for that game.
Tech’s homecoming game is Sept. 28 against Rocky. Senior Day is Nov. 16 against Southern Oregon. So far, all of Tech’s 2013 games are day games.
Tech plays Western, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon — teams from the West Division — home and away. The Orediggers play East division Carroll, Rocky Mountain, Dickinson State and MSU-Northern once.
Oredigger coach Chuck Morrell said Tech’s schedule is a brutal one. The same could be said for every team in the Frontier, the coach said.
“You’ve got to be up for every game,” Morrell said. “In the Frontier Conference, there’s a fine line between an 8-2 playoff team and a 2-8 not-going-anywhere team. The difference is very small. There’s so much parity in this league, you better be prepared to show up every single week. There’s no game that’s less important. I think that’s what’s driving our guys right now. They’re really excited about the schedule.”
