Tech AD moving up

Montana Tech will be in the market for a new athletic director.

Joe McClafferty, the school’s AD since 2006, was named President of the Montana Tech Foundation and Vice Chancellor for Development and University Relations, the school announced Thursday.

“I feel the growth of the Foundation and the development of the university are critical to the success of Montana Tech,” McClafferty said in a statement. “I am excited to take what I have accomplished during my entire career and apply it to the Foundation and University relations. I want to take Montana Tech from good to great.”

McClafferty’s tenure as AD included the renovation of the HPER Complex, the installation of the “DiggerVision” Jumbotron at Alumni Coliseum and a more community-friendly game-day atmosphere at football games. An artificial playing field will be installed at Alumni Coliseum next summer.

Every coach on campus was hired under McClafferty’s watch.

McClafferty, who played basketball for Montana Tech and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the school, will assume his new position next month. An interim AD has not been named.
