Teams eye Naranche for relocated games

Butte High’s Naranche Stadium could be the hub of high school football the next three days.

The historic stadium could host as many five varsity football games, including Butte High’s home opener against Helena Capital tonight, because of wildfires across the state.

Advantage Butte has agreed to pay the facility rental for the teams if they bring their games to the Mining City, Butte High activities director Chuck Merrifield said today.

Missoula Sentinel might move its game with Great Falls High to Naranche on Friday night. The stadium would also host the subvarsity game between those teams.

Other games that could possibly be played in Butte on Saturday include Hamilton vs. Browning, Corvallis vs. Polson and Thompson Falls vs. Eureka.

Merrifield said the final call as to whether move the games to Butte will be made on Friday morning.

Last week, Advantage Butte paid the rental fee for Whitehall and Glasgow to play at Naranche Stadium. The school district is considering getting Bulldog Memorial Stadium ready to bring in more games, if needed, next week.

No admission will be charged for the relocated games.
