WHITEFISH — Taylor England of Montana Tech was named the Frontier Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.
England is a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Helena. The Orediggers went 1-1 on an Oregon road trip, beating Willamette University 77-66 and losing 103-51 to Oregon State in an exhibition game. He scored 36 points against Willamette.
England averaged 20 points, five rebounds, one block and 3.5 steals per game. He was 14 of 16 from the field and 12 of 16 from the free throw line.
Mascio McCadney of MSU-Northern, Jared Samuelson of Rocky Mountain College and Matt Wyman of Carroll College were also nominated.
Women’s Player of the Week: Emilee Maldonado of the University of Providence
Maldonado is a 5-5 sophomore guard from Sunnyside, Washington. Providence went 2-0 at the Adidas-Northwest Classic with wins over Northwest Christian (Ore.) 85-83 and Northwest University (Wash) 70-49.
Maldonado averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals. She was 12 of 25 from the field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line. Maldonado scored a career high 28 points in the win over Northwest Christian including the game-winning basket with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game.
Tori Anderson of Montana Western, Alyssa Big Man of Rocky Mountain College, Sydney Hovde of MSU-Northern and Shay Potter of Montana Tech were also nominated.
