Subvarsity hoops roundup: Butte High girls

Following are the game reports for Butte High’s subvarsity basketball teams from the last week.

The Bulldogs played at Belgrade on Friday, and Butte High’s freshman team took on Butte Central’s junior varsity team on Monday.

The reports were submitted by Butte High coaches.

Butte High Freshman 40, Butte Central JV 29
Butte High outscored the Maroons 22-12 in the second half to break open a one-point game at the Butte Civic Center.

The play of Sidney Whitaker, Ashlinn Mullaney and Chelsi Lyons sparked the second half run, Bulldog coaches said.

Shelby Byrnes scored nine points to lead a balanced Bulldog attach that saw nine players score points. Brityn Stewart scored eight, Gracie Ferriter tossed in six, and Madisyn Swanson netted five. The Dogs also got four points from Catherine Sholey, three from Mullaney, and two from Lyons Murphy Sullivan and Jaycee Cleveland.

Mollie Drew had a big game for the Maroons, scoring 18 points. Katherine Lalicker added seven points, and Maycee Anderson tossed in four.

Sidney Whitaker, Ashlinn Mullaney, and Chelsi Lyons provided a needed spark in the second half.

Butte High Freshman 58, Belgrade Freshmen 14
BELGRADE — The Bulldogs scored 28 points in the first quarter and rolled to the victory.

Dylann Bartoletti led the way with 14 points for the Bulldogs. Chelsi Lyons came off the bench to score 11. The Bulldogs also got eight points from Ashlinn Mullaney and Brityn Stewart, and six points from Catherine Sholey and Shelbie Byrnes.

Byrrnes, Madisyn Swanson and Sidney Whitaker were great rebounding and controlling the game, the Bulldog coaches said.  Bartoletti and Stewart were the “Junkyard Dogs” of the game for the Freshman.  That distinction was award for “great team basketball and hustling all over.”

BELGRADE — Ashby Lee scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs in the loss.

Butte High also got nine points from Gracie Ferriter, six from Sonya Trudnowski, three apiece from Kenzie Jaksha and Taylor Drakos, and two from Jacee Cleveland.

Ferriter was the “Junkyard Dog” for the game. Coaches say Lilith Kohn and Drakos were great on defense and rebounding.

BELGRADE — Six Bulldogs scored as Butte High fell in the junior varsity game.

Brooke Groesbeck scored a team-best six points for the Bulldogs. Her coaches say she was outstanding on both ends of the floor. Dylann Bartoletti tossed in six. Butte High also got four from Taylor Bushman, three from Kenzie Kaksha, two from Kiahna Wetzel and one from Olivia Spear.

Bushman was the “Junkyard Dog” her effort.
