HELENA — Stodden Park will be the host of the next Class A State softball tournament.

The Montana High School Association announced tournament selections for the next two school years Tuesday, following meetings by the Executive Board Monday and Tuesday.

Stodden and Butte Central were supposed to host the State A tournament this month. Spring sports seasons in Montana, however, were canceled because of the coronavirus. The MHSA moved that back to next year.

The newly-renovated complex played host to the Class AA State tournament last May.

The softball tournament will be one of four MHSA events hosted in Butte during the 2020-21 school year.

The Butte Country Club will host the Class A State golf tournament Oct. 1-2. The State AA speech meet will be Jan. 29-30, and the State A combined boys’ and girls’ basketball tournament will be March 11-13 at the Civic Center.

Those sites were previously announced by the MHSA. The announcement of the softball tournament is new.

The Mining City has no events scheduled for the 2021-22 school year yet. Several sites for tournaments that school year, however, have yet to be decided.

Great news that they are letting the scheduled 2020 State A softball be held at Stodden in 2021. Kind of funny to read you description of Stodden fields as “ newly-renovated”, considering the improvements started in 2013 with a Title IX complaint and it’s been a seven year battle to get the fields improved. Hope we will actually see a new netting system to protect the spectator area and playground by 2021. That issue has been a part of the seven year battle. Fingers crossed!!!!

It’s actually been a 19 year ongoing struggle to give the female athletes the amenities and safety features they work hard for and deserve.
