The Class A and Class AA State softball tournaments open in Anaconda and Missoula Thursday.
Butte Central, the No. 2 seed from the Southwestern A after last weekend’s soggy divisional tournament, will open play at 11 a.m. on Field No. 2 at the Charlotte Yeoman-Martin Complex in Anaconda. The winner will take on defending champion Frenchtown, the No. 1 seed from the Northwestern A, at 3 p.m.
The Maroons and Rangers met in the regular season, with BC winning 7-3 in Livingston.
Butte High opens the Class AA State tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday against Missoula Big Sky on Field No. 4 at the Fort Missoula Softball Complex. That will be their only game of the first day of the tournament.
The Bulldogs played Big Sky March 31 in Butte, and the No. 2 seed from the Western AA topped Butte High 5-0. The Eagles return everybody from last year’s second-place team.
Butte High is the No. 3 seed from the Eastern AA after beating Billings Senior in three games of Friday’s best-of-three playoff series at Stodden Park.
