State A golf tournament starts Friday in Hamilton

The Class A State golf tournament begins Friday at the Hamilton Golf Club.

Play begins at 9 a.m. each day of the two-day event.

Butte Central senior Tricia Joyce looks to close her brilliant prep career with a state championship. Last week Joyce won her fourth Western A Divisional title in Billings. She fired a 73 for a 5-shot win over Macee Greenwood of Corvallis at the Cabinet View Golf Club.

Joyce, who tied for third at the Women’s State Amateur in July, has placed second, third and fourth at State in her career. This season, Joyce has won all seven tournaments in which she competed.

BC juniors Cole Johnson and Gator Yelenich also qualified for the state tournament. Both shot a 93 at the Divisional meet.

Libby’s Ryggs Johnston is favored to win his fourth state title on the boys side. Johnston, who won the Men’s State Am in Butte in July, has two Class B crowns and on Class A title under his belt.
