SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — Montana Tech golfer David Starcevich proved he can play with the big boys Tuesday.
Starcevich fired a 1-over-par 73 in the final round of a Frontier Conference tournament hosted by Westminster College at TalonsCove Golf Club. That followed rounds of 80 and 74 as the Butte High graduate shot up the leader board and tied for ninth place with a 227 three-round total.
The 73 tied for the second best round of the day, tying with medalist Col Lorenzo of Lewis-Clark State College, on a day dominated by gusting winds. Lorenzo, who shot 69 twice Monday, won the tournament with a 5-under-par 211. Westminster College’s Nick Smart, whose 72 was the low round of the day, placed a distant second at 219.
LC State won the tournament with an 879. Westminster was next at 889, followed by Rocky Mountain College at 924, Carroll College at 933, Montana Tech at 950, the University of Great Falls at 1,070 and MSU-Northern at 1,189.

On the women’s side, Rocky Mountain’s Kayla Clancy won medalist honors with a 156. She followed her first-round 75 with an 81. She beat Mari Husti of Westminster and Karina Davila of LC State by one shot.
Carroll’s Jackie Mee placed sixth at 161. Fellow Saints Rachel Miles and Lexi Pyette placed 12th and 13th at 172 and 174.
LC State won the team title at 647. Westminster was second at 671, followed by Rocky at 686, Carroll at 701, Great Falls at 751 and MSU-Northern at 867.
Montana Tech didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for a team score. Danielle McCully led Montana Tech at 181. Taryn Campbell hit 185.
Next up for the Orediggers is the Frontier Conference Tournament, which is April 29-30 in the Ahwatukee Country Club in Phoenix, Arizona.
