ANACONDA — With Hailey Hoagland and David Starcevich leading the way, Butte High’s girls’ and boys’ golf teams into title contention at the Butte High Invitational.
Butte High’s girls are tied for the lead after Thursday’s round at the Old Works. The Bulldog boys sit in third. The second round begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the Butte Country Club.
Hoagland, a junior, fired a 4-over-par 76 to take a commanding lead in the individual race and lead the Bulldogs to a 360 team score. Bozeman also shot a 360. Missoula Hellage is a distant third at 393.
Bozeman’s Charlee Remitz sits in second place at 84, one shot better than Butte High sophomore Shealyn Hafer.
Hailey Ogolin added a 96 for the Bulldogs, while Megan Ingersoll shot 103 and McKenzee O’Neill hit a 108.
Butte Central’s Regan Weldon also shot 103.
Starcevich, a senior, hit a 2-over 74 and is tied for the lead with Cody Babinecz of Great Falls High for the individual lead.
Freshman Caleb Stetzner of Anaconda and Kyle Powell of Bozeman are three back at 77.
Bozeman sits in first place at the halfway point at 317. Belgrade is second at 321, while Butte High is seven back at 324.
Ty Murphy added an 81 for the Bulldogs, who head to their home course for the final round. Mike Jankovich hit an 83, while Trey Hoagland hit 86 and Tyler Myers carded a 92.
Derek Ralph shot 87 and Cal Hollow hit 88 to lead Butte Central, which shot a 374. Bryce Noctor finished with a 94.
