Spuds take big lead, top Tommyknockers, 14-10

CALDWELL, Idaho — A six-run rally in the top of the ninth inning was not enough for the Mining City Tommyknockers Wednesday night.

Canyon County scored seven runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth, and the Spuds held on for a 14-10 Expedition League victory over the Tommyknockers at Wolfe Field. (Boxscore)

Joey Grabanski, Zach Tallerman and Danny Burns homered to lead the Spuds, who evened the three-game series at a game apiece. Cam Grant went 3 for 4 with two doubles.

Starter Brendan Thome went five innings, giving up two unearned runs in the win.

Mike Ruggerino hit his first home run as a Tommyknocker to lead the Mining City, which out hit the Spuds 10-9. Jack Walker tripled, Jake Mastillo hit a double and a single, and Miles Hartsfield and Luke Trainer each poked two singles for the Knockers.

Justin Greene, Matt Morgan and Seth Lucero also singled for the Butte club.

The Tommyknockers and Spuds will play the rubber game Thursday night. The Mining City then heads to Casper, Wyoming for a three-game series with the Horseheads.

The next home game for the Tommyknockers is next Tuesday when they open a six-game home stand against the Spearfish Sasquatch.
