Five Mining City players named to All-Star Game
CALDWELL, Idaho — Chalk up Thursday as a bittersweet day for the Mining City Tommyknockers.
Hours after finding out five Mining City players were selected to play in the Expedition League All-Star Game, the Canyon County Spuds handed the Knockers an 11-2 defeat at Wolfe Field. (Boxscore)
Joey Grabanski hit a double and a single, Lucus Danielewicz hit a bomb, and Zach Tallerman drove in three RBIs to lead Spuds who out hit the Tommyknockers 10-5. Canyon County also took advantage of seven walks.
Gary Grosjean started and fanned seven in six four-hit innings to get the win. He gave up two runs, only one of which was earned.
All of Butte’s hits were singles. They came from David Melfi, Carter Dobrinski, Jake Castillo, Justin Greene and Hayden Brown.
One Tommyknocker highlight came from Butte native Liam Sommer. The former Butte Miner struck out the side while working a perfect inning for the Tommyknockers.
Earlier Thursday, the Tommyknockers announced Melfi, Dobrinski, Zach Camp, Seth Lucero and Dylan Wilhelm were named All-Stars.
