Southwestern A Divisional tennis start moved up

Butte Central’s tennis players will get an earlier than expected start Thursday when they play in the Southwestern A Divisional tournament in Hamilton and Corvallis.

Play was set to begin in the afternoon for the tournament, which could run into Saturday. It will now start “as early as possible” on Thursday because of wet weather in the forecast.

The exact time of the start will be decided at tonight’s seeding tournament.

The Maroons will send seven singles players and six doubles teams to the tournament. The top four individuals and teams move on to next week’s Class A State tournament in Kalispell.

Senior Tricia Joyce and junior Guido Ossello will be looking for their second trip to state. Joyce, who played at state in doubles two years ago, will try to make it in singles as she closes out her remarkable multi-sport career at BC.

Ossello, who played at state with Cameron Johnson last year, will try to make state with Aidan Petritz this year.

Sophia Burton, Mati McGree and Sage Wall will also play singles for the BC girls. The Maroon girls’ doubles teams are Shea Davis/Preson Weldon, Delaney Hasquet/Avery Kelly and Tess Riordan/Marissa Anderson.

David Grandell, Max Drew and Bryson Sestrich will play singles for the BC boys. Max Drew will play with John Fisher, while Drew Badovinac will team with his cousin Gage Guldseth.
