Smoke sends Tech football on the road, prep scrimmages still on

While the Butte Central and Butte High scrimmages are still scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday, Montana Tech’s football team hit the road to practice because of the poor air quality in Butte.

According to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the air quality in Butte has been rated as “very unhealthy” throughout today thanks to wildfires burning across the western part of the United States.

The Orediggers won’t say where they traveled to for practice today and tomorrow.

Nick Bowsher, Tech’s assistant athletic director of facilities and communications, said Saturday’s scrimmage is still set for 1 p.m. at Alumni Coliseum. That, Bowsher said, could change depending on the air quality.

Butte High is scheduled host intra-squad scrimmages in football, soccer, cross country and volleyball Friday at Butte High. The Butte Athletic Council will hold its annual barbecue in conjunction with the event.

Butte High and Butte Central’s teams practiced indoors on Thursday.

Butte High’s event begins with freshman volleyball at 3:30 p.m. at the Richardson Gym. The varsity vs. junior varsity scrimmage starts at 5:30 p.m.

A cross country race, which will finish in Naranche Stadium begins at 4:30. The girls’ soccer team scrimmages at 5 p.m. on the south field. The boys’ team follows at 6, while the subvarsity boys go at 4.

The Purple and White football game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Naranche Stadium.

BC’s Maroon and White volleyball scrimmage begins at 9:30 a.m. at the MAC. The football game kicks off at 10:30.

The Maroon golf team is also scheduled to play in the Park Invitational tomorrow in Livingston. For now, that tournament is still on.
