Smoke cancels soccer games

Butte High’s soccer teams will have to wait to play under the lights.

Saturday night’s matches against Billings Senior at Bulldog Memorial Stadium have been called off because of the smoky conditions, Butte High boys’ coach Eric Zahler said. A date to make up the games has not been determined, Zahler said.

Butte High has never played a home soccer game “under the lights.” The Bulldogs have played night games in Bozeman and Billings in recent years.

Zahler said he hopes the Bulldogs will get to play the makeup game at Bulldog Memorial Stadium. He called Thursday night’s practice there “amazing.”

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality lists Saturday’s air in the Mining City as “hazardous.”
