Slow start sinks Oredigger women at Rocky

BILLINGS — Martha Dembeck buried five 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead the Montana Tech women’s basketball team Saturday night.

The Battlin’ Bears outscored Tech 17-9 in the first quarter, and the Orediggers never caught up.

Mikayla Jones scored 16 points, and Keisha Engelhardt posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bears (9-7, 1-3). Justyn Juhl scored 10.

Denbek, who scored 27 points in Thursday’s win at Montana Western, hit 9 of 11 shots from the free throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds.

Tech also got seven points from Monica Landdeck, six from Rachel Farris, three from Hattie Thatcher, two from Callee Remsen and Kourtney Coverdell,and one from Kaylynn Coverdell. Thatcher also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists.

The Orediggers (8-8, 2-3) will play their first home game in more than a month Thursday when they take on Carroll College.
