Slow start sinks Butte boys in loss at Missoula Hellgate

MISSOULA — Missoula Hellgate jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter, and Butte High could not recover Tuesday night.

The Knights completed the regular-season sweep of the Bulldogs with a 65-48 win over Butte High in a Western AA boys’ basketball game.

Connor Dick scored 16 points to lead the Knights, who led 34-18 at halftime. Hellgate blew the game open to a 54-29 lead before the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter.

Griffin Kinch scored 11 points in the win, and Dre Bowie tossed in 10 points as Hellgate improved to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in league play.

Kenley Leary scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs, who fell to 3-11 and 3-7. Kooper Klobucar scored 10 points for Butte High, which got seven points from Bo Demarais and six from Dylan Bache.

Also, Jonas Sherman scored two points, and Jace Stenson netted one. Cameron Gurnsey, Garret Sharp, Tocher Lee, Colton Shea and Rueso Batterman also played for the Bulldogs.

Butte High is back in action Friday, playing host to Missoula Big Sky at the Richardson Gym.
