Skylights drop heartbreaker at national tournament

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The MSU-Northern women’s basketball team dropped a 55-53 decision in overtime to Benedictine (Kansas) Wednesday at the NAIA national tournament. Stat sheet

Chayla Rutledge scored 22 points to lead Benedictine, which moves on to the second round with a 27-6 record.

Butte High graduate Natalee Faupel scored 16 points to lead the Skylights, who close out the season with a 23-9 record. Cydney Auzenne added 14 points, while Sierra Ricahrds and Jacy Thompson each scored nine. Richards added 13 rebounds.

Faupel closed out her junior season with 504 points, an average of 16.3 points per game. On her career, Faupel has scored 1,260 points in three seasons with the Skylights. The guard was named first-team All-Frontier Conference two straight seasons. She was named the league MVP last week.
