Butte’s Will Silk returned to the Mining City after a strong performance in the U.S. Junior Speedskating Championships over the weekend in West Allis, Wisconsin. (Results)
The Butte High freshman was the youngest competitor in the event that also served as the trials for the U.S. Junior World Team, even though the Junior World Championships in Japan has been called off because of the coronavirus.
Silk, 15, was the lone competitor in the younger C boys’ category as he skated his first full Olympic-style meet and skating several distances for the first time. Silk will head back to Wisconsin for the pack-style national meet next month.
On Thursday, Silk will suit up for the Butte High freshman basketball team as the Bulldogs take on Missoula Big Sky.
