Shorthanded Sprockets place seventh in make up

BOZEMAN — The Butte Copper Sprockets placed seventh in team standings Sunday at the Disco Make Up race.

The race came one day after the Copper Sprockets won the Crosscut Classic. The race, which was a make up of an earlier postponement, was raced on a shortened version of Saturday’s course. (Results)

The make up will not count toward overall or individual team scores in the Montana Interscholastic Cycling League Race Series.

Also because it was a make up, the Butte-based Copper Sprockets were down to just 10 riders.

Coen Lutke placed second in the sophomore boys’ race to lead the Copper Sprockets. Patrick Renouard and Giovanni Fantini each placed fourth in their age groups, Renouard in the freshman boys and Fantini in seventh-grade boys.

Milee Stillwagon took fifth in the sixth-grade girls, and Will McGree finished eighth in the eighth-grade boys.

Also competing for the Copper Sprockets were Bo Bjorgum, Ryder Draper, Benjamin McAdams, Joey Ward and Ian Troutman.

Bozeman High School won the team title with 2,280 points. Gallatin finished second at 2,011, and West High School took third at 1,925. The Copper Sprockets scored 962 points.

Next up for the Copper Sprockets is the Sept. 25 Herron Hustle in Kalispell. A week later, the team will race in Lolo.
