The Butte High Boys Soccer team entered the game vs the 3-time defending state champion Hellgate Knights without any varsity subs due to injury and sickness. To make matters even worse, in warmups, senior Bulldog goalkeeper Joe Schrader was injured so 8th grader Johan Thieszen bravely stepped into the net. After the game Johan stated, “I was terrified out there.”
The Bulldogs held their own against the Knights for the first few minutes of the game and Johan Thieszen made some great saves. However, the speed, strength, and ball control of Hellgate overwhelmed Butte High. Although the Bulldog’s Cameron Tobiness and Mack Williams each had chances to score in the game, the Knights won 10-0.
“Even in the lopsided loss today, I saw many positive things. We played hard and kept our heads up even when they kept scoring. At times, we put together some great passing sequences which led to 3 good shots on their goal.”
The Bulldogs have 3 days to regroup and get ready for the Big Sky Eagles in Missoula on Saturday at 11 am.
