Sentinel pitches 3-hitter in big win over Butte High

MISSOULA – Stella Summerfield belted a double and Charlee Hoover socked a home run in the first inning to spur Missoula Sentinel toward a 20-1 victory over Butte High Thursday in a Western AA Conference high school girls’ softball game.
The Spartans exploded for 13 runs in the fourth inning to put wider distance between themselves and the Bulldogs as Summerfield, Haley Sellers, Haley Wolsky, Kennedy Dypwick and Emma Ries all knocked in runs, a Game Changer Media report said.
Winning pitcher Rylee Crane held Butte High to one run and three hits. Madisyn Swanson doubled home Kamber Leary, who had singled, in the third inning for the Bulldogs’ only run. Rian Ferriter also singled.
The game ended in the fifth inning on the 10-run difference rule. It was a one-game competition, not scheduled for a doubleheader as previously reported.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 1-4 for the season, 1-3 in conference play. They will play at Belgrade on Saturday in a noon non-conference game. Butte High was to compete in the Class AA Crossover event in Great Falls on Saturday, but it was called off because of poor weather and playing conditions.
