Senior girls top N. California

MISSOULA — The Butte Senior girls’ are 1 for 1 in their quest to get back to the World Series.

Montana’s state champions beat the Antioch all-stars from Northern California 6-4 this afternoon at the Western Regional tournament at the Dale Clawson Complex.

Megan Michelotti went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, while Haley Henderson tripled and singled to lead the Butte offense. Bobbie Osterman smacked two hits and closed the door from the pitchers’ circle.

Mikayla Boggs was the winning pitcher.

The tournament field consists of Montana champion Butte, Northern California champion Antioch, Southern California champion Victorville, Arizona champion Tucson, Oregon champion Klamath Falls and host Missoula.

The Butte team plays two games on Saturday. The Butte girls will play Arizona at 11:15 a.m. before taking on Southern California at 3:45 p.m. On Sunday, the Montana State champs will play Oregon at 1:30 p.m. The Butte girls then close out pool play against the host team from Missoula at 6 p.m. Sunday. The top four teams of the six-team tournament advance to the semifinals on Tuesday. The championship game is also on Tuesday night.

Members of the Butte team are Boggs, Michelotti, Henderson, Osterman, Morgan Bagley, Justyce Connole, Kassidy Criscuolo, Ashton LaFond, Jenna Maroney, Ashten McCloskey, Maria Michelotti, and Katlyn O’Brien.

Butte is the two-time defending champion of the tournament.
