Senior girls advance to regional

The Butte Senior softball team made it look easy again.

Thanks to contributions from players from up and down the roster, the Butte girls completed the two game sweep of the state championship series, beating a team of All-Stars from Laurel and Billings 16-6 Saturday at the Longfellow Complex. Butte won 24-1 Friday night.

The Butte team will now represent Montana at next week’s Western Region tournament at the Dale Clawson Complex in Missoula.

Team Montana will play Washington and Northern California on Friday. The winner of the that tournament heads to Delaware for the World Series. Butte made that trip the last two years.

The Butte girls got serious contributions from their four 13-year-old players — Kassidy Criscuolo, Jenna Maroney, Megan Michelotti and Katlyn O’Brien.

O’Brien pitched well in relieve, while Maroney doubled and played great defense at short stop, Michelotti went 3 for 3 with a double, and Criscuolo walked and played stellar defense at second.

Ashten McCloskey launched a home run, while Justyce Connole hit a stand up triple in a 2-for-3 performance. Also, Bobbie Osterman and Maria Michelotti each hit a double and a single, Aston LaFond and Haley Henderson each smacked two hits, and Morgan Bagley singled and scored two runs.

Mikayla Boggs started and picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle.
